training and career development programs include skill and
aptitude matching and support services, which smooth the school-to-work
transition. |

|
| Anne Bonfiglio's life-long goal has been to help underprivileged minority youth improve their future through a career. |
|
| She has taught high school students preparing girls for the New York State Regents exams, and has tutored in remedial English classes at Kingsborough College . |
|
| All my life I have been concerned and sympathetic towards
young people who are members of families in the poorer segment
of our society, and who do not have the financial ability to
support the education of their children. In bringing up and
educating my five children here in New York City 's public
schools, I was constantly aware of this problem. |
|
| One major factor that prompted me to start this charity was
the pro bono work of my late husband, an attorney. He was an
inspiration to me since he was always giving legal advice to
poor families and representing them at little or no charge. |
|
| Personally, I believe that every child here in America deserves
the opportunity for a bright future. I am passionate about
helping as many young people as possible through PSA to identify
jobs and careers, find personal fulfillment and make a life
for themselves. |

| CURRENT EVENTS AND NEWS |
|
The Partnership for Student Advancement is growing by leaps and bounds.
For the September 2007 school year, we added a new group of students from the H.S. of Leadership and Public Service on Trinity Place in New York City.
Meanwhile our pilot group of PSA students is now in their senior year at Norman Thomas H.S. in Murray Hill. They all experienced successful mini-internships in the summer of 2007 confirming their career choices.
All our students receive one-on-one coaching sessions throughout the school year, and attended career classes conducted by a Boy Scouts subsidiary, according to their skills and interests. Johnson O’Connor Research Foundation has nearly completed the skill and aptitude testing of the new students, which is the key to our program.
Professional speakers are scheduled monthly; they provide either education in business skills or a motivational presentation. Our motivational speakers have been inspiring and have been fabulous role models for our students. Speakers have included North Fork Bank managers, a Baruch College Admissions Director, a MetLife Information Technology Vice-President, the Principal/owner of Response-Able Consulting, a Diversity Director, and public speaker, and former actor who is a successful author.
PSA is happy to report that our speakers and trainers have benefited large numbers of students at the high school in addition to those in the PSA program. Entire classes attend each of two presentations given by our speakers.
PSA is happy to report that it has recently received funding from the Rotary Club of New York, the Cooper Foundation of Neurological Research and Education, and the Welles Remy Crowther Charitable Trust, in addition to individual donors. Also, a monetary gift for educational purposes was awarded in January, 2008, to Anne Bonfiglio so that she could pursue coursework in nonprofit management.
PSA is fortunate to have a volunteer intern work with us from the Columbia University Teacher’s College Master’s Program in Clinical Psychology.
PSA is proud to report that one of our current students graduating from high school and our program has been accepted to Vassar and to Bowdoin in Maine.
Johnson O’Connor Research Foundation has a full page on their website about their partnership with PSA: http://www.jocrf.org/about_us/PSA.html
A full page color ad about PSA was published in Business Week on June 4th, 2007, and will appear again in June, 2008, which described our program and asked for assistance, monetary and otherwise. |
